For your information, we are working on a GUI for the agent. The first release is planned in the coming weeks. Even if we do this especially for MacOSX,iIt will be also available on Windows and Linux since the code is written in C++/QT4.

This GUI goal is to simplify the initial agent configuration.

The FusionInventory plugins for GLPI 0.78.x are now available!

FusionInventory is a free and open source project providing hardware, software inventory and network discovery to the IT asset management and helpdesk software called GLPI.
“FusionInventory for GLPI” is a collection of plugins using GLPI’s internal framework and philosophy (entities, habilitations, user interface, etc.) and communicate with some agents (FusionInventory-Agent), deployed on computers.

FusionInventory Core: provides core functionnalities:

Communication with inventory and network discovery agents

• Tasks management and scheduling ;
• Wake on LAN ;
• Centralized rules for assets import in GLPI ;
• Unknown devices management (temporary zone, in GLPI, before real asset management).

FusionInventory Inventory:

• Local inventory for computers (hardware, software, antivirus) ;
• Handle and update computers already in GLPI.

FusionInventory SNMP:

• Network discovery, unknown devices management (using FusionInventory core plugin) ;
• Remote network devices and printers (thanks to the SNMP protocol) ;
• Get network port informations, VLANs, link between switchs network ports and assets already in GLPI (computers, network printers, network devices, etc.) ;
• Change history and reports for each network port ;
• Printers cartridges’ ink levels, daily page counters and reports.

More than 1450 network devices and printers are currently supported.

FusionInventory 2.3.2 for GLPI is compatible with GLPI 0.78.x. Version 2.4.0 is on the way, bringing compatibility with GLPI 0.80 (which is currently available as RC2). It’ll bring new features, such as virtualization and remote Vmware ESX/ESXi/vCenter inventory.
At the same time, work on usability and documentation is being made, to facilitate and daily use of the plugins.
The agent is being rewritten, and communication protocol is switching from XML to REST/JSON. Finally, later this year, the project should release a brand new software deployment module and an agent for Android phones and tablets.

After 8 month of development and 4 beta version, the FusionInventory team is happy to announce the first release candidate of the FusionInventory for GLPI 2.3.0 plugin.

It is a major step for the project.

Communcation :

• compatible with GLPI 0.78.x
• new tasks management : ability to schedule tasks and split jobs between agents
• wake agent up when needed
• wake on lan (WOL)

Network inventory improvements :

• improve SNMP capabilities : detection using netbios, nmap and snmp
• more than 1300 network devices supported in SNMP
• full support for HP ProCurve, Cisco and Nortel switches (inventory and devices connected on each port)

Local inventory :

• inventory into GLPI : no need to use an external inventory server anymore
• antivirus inventory on Windows workstations (from Windows XP to Windows 7)

In the meantime, version 2.4.0 for GLPI 0.80 RC1 is in beta stage and  also brings virtual machine managements into GLPI  (VMware ESX/ESXI/vCenter inventory will come soon).

LinuxTag in Berlin is a major FreeSoftware event in Europe. Members of the FusionInventory and GLPI teams will there.

The talk is scheduled for the 11th of may.. Some of us will be in Berlin the day before. This talk will be given just one day before the one at Solutions Linux in Paris. It a bit sad to see two major European event like that during the same week .
